Genevieve Walshe is a multidisciplinary artist.
I am an artist working primarily with clay and drawing, exploring how materials can carry stories, memory, and meaning. My practice often begins with everyday forms—fruit, bodies, gestures—that I reimagine through surrealist play, bold colour, and fragmented surfaces. I’m interested in how objects hold both the ordinary and the extraordinary: they can be tender, funny, or strange, while also carrying ritual, symbolism, and myth.
My approach is shaped by experimentation and self-directed study, as well as the traditions I inherit from family makers and craftspeople. I use paper clay, stains, and collage-like processes that connect ceramics to quilting, mosaics, and painting. These techniques allow me to blur boundaries between craft and narrative, between material and story.
Through my work, I hope to create spaces where playfulness meets contemplation—where an object can feel both familiar and otherworldly, and where viewers can find echoes of their own memory, ceremony, and imagination.
